Faster than Notepad. Smarter too.
Kolada opens quicker than Windows Notepad, saves everything on its own, and finds any note you have ever written.
Quicker than the app you reach for first
People open Notepad because it is fast. On our Windows 11 test machine, Notepad took a median of 723 ms to a ready window. Kolada took 47 ms.
Nothing to name, nothing to save
In Kolada there is nothing to name and nowhere to save. You just type: the first line becomes the note’s title and its file name, and everything saves automatically. Deleted notes go to the trash, with undo.
Everything Notepad does not
Kolada is still a plain text app at heart, with the rest close at hand:
- Search across every note, forgiving typos
- Live Markdown: headings, checklists and tables as you type
- Version history for every note
- Find and replace with Ctrl F and Ctrl H
- A quick note from any app with Win Alt N
- Spell check in English and Arabic, and right-to-left text

Questions
What is a good alternative to Windows Notepad?
Kolada opens faster than Notepad (47 ms against 723 ms in our tests), saves notes automatically as plain Markdown files, and adds search and version history.
Are Kolada notes plain text?
Yes. Every note is a plain .md file, which is text with optional Markdown formatting. Any text editor can open it.
