The fast notes app.
Kolada opens in 47 milliseconds and types without a trace of lag. Hit the shortcut, start writing, and the thought is down before it fades.
Why speed is the whole point
A note is only useful if you write it. Most notes apps make you wait: a splash screen, a sync spinner, a sidebar that loads one folder at a time. In those seconds the idea is gone.
Kolada was built the other way round. Speed is not a feature added at the end. It is the first rule of the code, and every change is measured against it before it ships.
How fast is Kolada?
On a Windows 11 laptop at 4K, Kolada shows a ready window in a median of 47 ms. That is quicker than a blink, which takes 100 to 400 ms. Windows Notepad takes 723 ms on the same machine, and Obsidian takes 1,623 ms.
Typing is just as quick. A keystroke repaints only the letters that changed, in under a tenth of a millisecond, so the caret never trails your fingers. When you stop typing, Kolada draws nothing at all.
Fast with ten notes or a hundred thousand
Many apps are quick with an empty vault and slow down as your notes pile up. Kolada opens the same way with 2,000 notes or 100,000: it loads one note and a small snapshot of where you left off, and indexes the rest after the window is already on screen.
Fast to capture, fast to find
Opening quickly is only half of it. Everything after the first frame is quick too.
- Win Alt N opens a quick note from any app.
- Ctrl O searches every note, forgives typos and finds text inside PDFs and pictures.
- Ctrl P opens the command palette, so tables, checklists and links never need the mouse.
- Smart paste turns a web page, Word or Google Docs into a clean note in one Ctrl V.
